gtk+ icon marathon

The task for Tango-Friday this week is a bit of a challenge. We’re going to update the whole gtk+ stock icon set in one day. Yes, that is 193 icons, and we’re not going to stop until we are done.
We gather in #tango on freenode.net.
Artists, are you up to the challenge?

  5. Antoine says:

What I really dislike is the licence question… Why must we redraw icons,we already made for gnome :(

What a pity to loose time and energy…

  6. Leif says:

good luck guys! your hard work is extremely appreciated!

  7. liberforce says:

Yeah ! You guys rock ! Let’s get rid of the crappiest ones first (specially GTK_STOCK_CONNECT and GTK_STOCK_DISCONNECT) !

  8. Jones Lee says:

193 icons in a day… hope you guys succeed. This will be tough.

  9. Tim says:

At last, my biggest gripe with Gnome has found a resolve, new YES and NO icons!!! The original authors clearly had a bit of a creativity block when they created the original ones.

  10. Paul Wise says:

Antoine: simple answer: I suppose you still own copyright on the icons you made before? If so, just relicence them!

  11. [...] It is hell of a challenge to re-create all 193 stock icons for GTK+ toolkit, but I am joining the quest to do it! [...]

  12. Gavin says:

    Awesome, good luck!

  13. hbons says:

    And let’s get rid of gtk-yes and gtk-no! :)

  14. dieguito says:

I would appreciate an url icon or something web related. I’ll try to be there this friday, at least I can try to help!.

  15. Allan says:

It’ll surely make things more beautiful and consistent. We see them a lot of times everyday, so, new icons would be more than welcome, specially the “ok” and “cancel” ones. But they are not in Tango Fridays page… why?

Good luck with this marathon :)

    YES! KILL GTK_STOCK_CLOSE PLEASE!

It’s the worst icon ever. I wish its original author was dead.

  17. chaoskaizer says:

    good luck & godspeed

  18. Apreche says:

I would like to help, but I do not have the skills of an artist. I can’t wait for the results!

  19. Administrator says:

Anonymous: Uh, I don’t like the icon either, but dammit, I don’t wish death upon either jimmac or tigert.

  20. David Prieto says:

“specially the “ok” and “cancel” ones. But they are not in Tango Fridays page… why?”

    Yeah, why I wonder?

  21. Sebastian says:

193? I only see 98. And of these a number has already been tango-fied, e.g. gtk-underline, gtk-bold, and so on.

Here’s a small Python script that lets you look at your GTK stock icons:

Just a comment to say that some people (at least me) really like the current gtk icons, I find they have warmer colors than most (all ?) other icons set.
But good luck anyway to replace them, it seems a lot of people don’t like them, and I’m sure there will be an old-style icon theme with my favorites icons :)

  23. pedro says:

What exactly is wrong with the current set of icons?

  24. Shinda says:

    way to grey and dull.

Just one question, there are some icons that are already on GNOME and Tango icon themes like the arrows (up, down, left, top, etc) why did you changed the style?
